I think this is the first time Carmen has displayed any sort of power like this.
It’s temporal plot shielding. She knows she exists in the future and what she looks like when she gets there. Ergo, anything that happens to her as a kid cannot kill her or drastically alter her appearance.
Unless she was to do something like, say, make prolonged contact with her older self…
