Sorry, while I like the art in this one better than the last time this joke was used here, (http://www.soggycardboard.com/?comic=126-eggsistential-dilemma) the execution on that one was better, given the placement of the egg in the last panel. It just had more of a visceral punch.
Next time you do this, (circa Thursday after Easter Sunday, in 2027 ? ) I suggest showing the basket laying on its side in the last panel, with many of the eggs clearly missing, and a rabbit that exhibits a distict appearance of having had many decorated chicken eggs already shoved up its ass. (Would be logical in progression from the previous, and set up a long-running joke, where each Easter the poor bunny is fatter and fatter until something funny happens, such as one year, bunny is too fat to lift with dozens of eggs previously shoved up its ass from past Easter comics, or maybe the bunny turns on her and either begs Katherine not to shove more eggs up its ass, or attacks her, etc. OH! Maybe make the rabbit, when it turns on her, be some other rabbit, i.e., the bunny-suit guy from Donny Darko, or Buggs Bunny, (or I guess, to avoid a lawsuit, Budds Bunny… maybe a disused Beer mascot?) or something else funny.) Or add a fourth panel in which the Rabbit’s friends show up with a basket full of osterich eggs, and a meaningful look in their eyes and menacing expressions. Just a couple thoughts. Love the comic. Thanks for making it!
I appreciate the suggestion! Not to give away too much of how the sausage is made, but since the “reboot” I’ve made a pretty conscious decision to tone down the “visceral” (or at least crude) nature of the comic, as I felt it clashed a lot of the time with the tone I was aspiring for. Heck, I don’t think any of the characters say anything worse than “hell” in these last 164 strips!
That suggestion you made would probably fit tight at home in the pre-reboot comic, but these days when I revisit a concept I’ll usually try to tweak it for my current writing style 🙂
Something I only just now realized is that Katherine doing what she’s told and is putting the eggs back, which means that the bunny is where she actually got them from.
Did she find or create a rabbit that lays coloured eggs?
